Sanskrit: “that which is placed before”
A planet other than the Moon — and excluding Rahu and Ketu — occupying the 12th house from the Sun.
Check the sign preceding the Sun, applying the same exclusions. A chart may carry Vesi, Vasi, both — in which case it is named Ubhayachari — or neither.
Capability, generosity and recognition from those in authority; read as slightly more outward-facing than the paired Vesi.
Benefic and dignified occupants give the strongest reading. Venus in the 12th from the Sun is the instance classical sources cite for the generosity description, though Venus’s own proximity to the Sun makes combustion a live concern in exactly those cases.
As with Vesi, combustion of the occupant is the standing difficulty, and it affects Mercury and Venus most because they are the planets most often found adjacent to the Sun.
The occupying planet’s dasha and antardasha. Because the classical reading involves recognition from those in authority, practitioners look at whether the occupant also relates to the 10th house before attaching the description to a period — a Vasi formed by a planet with no connection to career houses is generally read more narrowly.
Same disputes as Vesi. There is an additional minor disagreement over whether Vasi and Vesi should be weighted equally, with some authorities treating the 12th-from-Sun position as the stronger of the two.
The mirror of Vesi and subject to the same dependency on the occupant and the same structural combustion problem.
Our engine doesn't currently detect Vasi Yoga automatically, so we won't claim it either way. Generate your free kundli to see your planetary positions, house placements and dignities, then check the condition above against them yourself.
Create your free kundliA note on how to hold any of this: a yoga is one feature of a chart among many, and no combination decides a life on its own. Classical texts frequently disagree on exact conditions, and a yoga’s effects are traditionally read as arriving during the dasha periods of the planets involved rather than continuously. Be particularly wary of any reading that names a difficult yoga and then offers to sell you the cure.
