Sanskrit: “of the Malava country”
Venus in its own sign (Taurus or Libra) or exalted (Pisces), placed in a kendra from the Lagna.
Malavya is the only Pancha Mahapurusha yoga that every ascendant can form. Venus in Taurus serves Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius lagnas; Venus in Libra serves Libra, Capricorn, Aries and Cancer; exalted Venus in Pisces serves Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius. Those three sets exhaust all twelve signs, which is a structural fact worth knowing before anyone tells you the yoga is rare.
Said to give beauty, refinement, artistic capacity, comfort, and success in fields where taste and relationship matter — design, performance, luxury trade, diplomacy.
Exalted Venus in Pisces is the strongest form, and its exaltation degree is 27° Pisces — unusually late in the sign, so a Venus at 5° Pisces is technically exalted but far from its peak. Venus in the 4th is traditionally read as the most comfortable placement for this yoga, since the 4th governs home, vehicles and settled ease, which are Venus significations already.
Venus combust is the main dilution, and Venus is combust within about 10° of the Sun. For Taurus and Libra ascendants Venus owns a kendra, raising the same kendradhipati question that affects Hamsa. Association with Saturn is read as delaying rather than destroying; association with Mars or Rahu is read as coarsening the yoga into appetite rather than refinement.
Venus mahadasha is the longest of the nine at twenty years, so a Malavya carrier who receives it in early adulthood has an unusually long activation window. The yoga is also traditionally read as showing during Venus antardashas inside Mercury and Saturn dashas.
A minority tradition requires Venus to be in a kendra from both the Lagna and the Moon. Some texts add a further requirement that Venus be unafflicted, which if applied strictly removes most instances. There is also disagreement about whether Venus in Libra outranks Venus in Taurus, since Libra is the sign of Venus’s rulership over relationship rather than substance.
Venus strong in a kendra reliably shows up as aesthetic sensitivity and an easier relationship to comfort. It says nothing certain about marriage, which is read from the 7th house and its lord.
Our free kundli checks for Malavya Yoga deterministically from your birth chart and will tell you plainly whether it is present — and will never claim it when it isn't.
Create your free kundliA note on how to hold any of this: a yoga is one feature of a chart among many, and no combination decides a life on its own. Classical texts frequently disagree on exact conditions, and a yoga’s effects are traditionally read as arriving during the dasha periods of the planets involved rather than continuously. Be particularly wary of any reading that names a difficult yoga and then offers to sell you the cure.
