Sanskrit: “poverty”
Most commonly described as the 11th lord (gains) placed in a dushthana — the 6th, 8th or 12th house — or afflicted lords of the 2nd and 11th.
The core formulation is the 11th lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th. Wider versions add the 2nd lord in a dushthana, the 2nd and 11th lords conjunct malefics, or the Lagna lord in the 12th with an afflicted 2nd. The wider the definition applied, the more charts qualify, which is precisely why the definition tends to get widened.
Financial difficulty, debt, and gains that fail to consolidate.
Where it is read at all, strength depends on whether the affected lords are otherwise dignified and whether any Dhana Yoga is simultaneously present. A chart carrying both is common and is not usefully described by either label alone.
Note first that an 11th lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th is also the exact condition for Harsha, Sarala or Vimala Viparita Raja Yoga in the adjacent tradition — the same placement, read as rise through adversity. That two well-established classical readings assign opposite meanings to one configuration is the most important thing to know about it. Beyond that, benefic aspect and a strong Lagna lord are the conventional mitigations.
The dashas of the 2nd and 11th lords, where applied.
This yoga has the least stable definition of any in common use and no agreed formulation across major texts. Given that, and given the direct contradiction with Viparita Raja Yoga described above, we document it here mainly so that readers who encounter the term elsewhere can see how contested it is rather than because it supports confident prediction.
The name alone makes this a favourite of predatory readings. Definitions vary widely, the condition is frequently offset elsewhere in a chart, and no combination in a birth chart determines an economic outcome. If a reading leads with this and ends with a price list, walk away.
Our engine doesn't currently detect Daridra Yoga automatically, so we won't claim it either way. Generate your free kundli to see your planetary positions, house placements and dignities, then check the condition above against them yourself.
Create your free kundliA note on how to hold any of this: a yoga is one feature of a chart among many, and no combination decides a life on its own. Classical texts frequently disagree on exact conditions, and a yoga’s effects are traditionally read as arriving during the dasha periods of the planets involved rather than continuously. Be particularly wary of any reading that names a difficult yoga and then offers to sell you the cure.
