Sanskrit: “mountain”
Benefics occupying the kendras while the 6th and 8th houses are empty or occupied only by benefics; or the Lagna and 12th lords in kendras or trikonas with benefic aspect.
Under the primary form both conditions must hold together: benefics in one or more kendras, and the 6th and 8th free of malefics. An empty 6th and 8th alone is not the yoga. The second formulation is unrelated in mechanism and shares only the name.
Eminence, prosperity and a standing that others recognise — the image is of visible height.
Strongest where benefics occupy the 1st and 10th and the dushthanas are entirely empty rather than benefic-occupied. Jupiter in a kendra with vacant dushthanas is the reading classical sources cite most often.
Any malefic in the 6th or 8th breaks the primary form outright under the strict reading, though many practitioners treat Saturn in the 6th as acceptable given that malefics are conventionally held to do well in upachayas.
Benefic dashas, particularly Jupiter and Venus. The yoga is read as describing standing rather than income, so classical sources connect it to reputation milestones rather than transactions — appointment, recognition, or a move into public visibility rather than a specific gain. Where the second formulation applies, the Lagna and 12th lord periods are the ones to watch instead.
The tension noted above is real and unresolved: the general principle that malefics do well in the 6th sits awkwardly against a yoga that requires the 6th to be empty. Different schools resolve it differently, and neither position is fringe.
The empty-dushthana requirement in the first formulation is genuinely restrictive, which makes this rarer than the more casually claimed wealth yogas.
Our engine doesn't currently detect Parvata Yoga automatically, so we won't claim it either way. Generate your free kundli to see your planetary positions, house placements and dignities, then check the condition above against them yourself.
Create your free kundliA note on how to hold any of this: a yoga is one feature of a chart among many, and no combination decides a life on its own. Classical texts frequently disagree on exact conditions, and a yoga’s effects are traditionally read as arriving during the dasha periods of the planets involved rather than continuously. Be particularly wary of any reading that names a difficult yoga and then offers to sell you the cure.
